Fall Semester Starts August 21!

We will begin our Fall 2017 regular schedule of lessons again on August 21. There are 34 of you this year!

It is always so exciting when the new year begins! Here are some tips to get started in the right direction:

1. Choose a specific time to practice each day
For my own children this works best first thing in the morning. For some students after school and evenings work best. Block out about 30 minutes although practice time will probably be less than this for most students.
2. Remember consistency is more important than time
Contrary to many music teachers, I'm more concerned about daily practice than long practice times. Practice time lengthens naturally as students progress the way I assign practice. Spending a little time each day is significantly more valuable than lengthy practices once or twice a week.
3. Follow practice instructions
While my instructions may not always be to a students liking, they are given with specific purpose. That purpose is usually to streamline practice, fix problem areas, or solidify a new technique or concept.
4. HAVE FUN!
Music is meant to be enjoyable. Choose to look at practice time as part of the fun, not just a chore to cross off the list!

Pull out some Mozart or maybe a little bluegrass. Jazz and swing will get your little ones dancing around in a hurry! As long as the lyrics are appropriate introducing various music styles will help them to eventually discover their own favorite. 2. Let them experiment  ~ It is tempting to not allow little hand to touch very expensive instruments, and I do not advocate unsupervised playtime. However taking time to show young children how ins
